Mobile Darkroom — Privacy Policy

Mobile Darkroom processes the photos you select on your iPhone or iPad. The app does not upload photos or editing data to servers operated by Björn Kindler or an AI provider. There is no app account, advertising, or embedded analytics or tracking SDK. Saved projects remain in local app storage. Export destinations you choose, and Apple's purchase and system services, are explained separately below.

Photos, projects and on-device AI

You select photos using the iOS photo picker or file picker. The app reads the selected image files and, where available, embedded depth information. Saved projects contain a copy of the original, editing settings, history, masks and calculated corrections in app storage. You can delete projects in the project library. This does not delete copies already exported or backups stored elsewhere.

AI Removal (LaMa), reflection reduction (DSRNet with VGG19 features), sky masks (SkySegSmall), subject and background masks using Apple frameworks, and estimated depth (Depth Anything V2 Small) are processed on device. The app's own models are bundled with the app. No photos, masks or depth maps are sent to an external AI provider.

Network access, iCloud and export

Photo editing itself does not require an internet connection. When you select an iCloud file or a photo that is not yet available locally, Apple's system services may download it. Depending on your system settings, app data may be included in device backups, and exports saved to Photos may sync through iCloud Photos. The app does not operate its own cloud service for these functions.

Exports are created as new JPEG files. You choose whether to save them to Photos or send them to another app or service using the iOS share sheet. Processing at the destination is governed by that destination's terms. The original file is not overwritten. JPEG exports with applied AI Removal or an applied AI reflection correction contain a machine-readable IPTC designation for AI-edited image content; this contains no user identifier. Existing IPTC image-origin designations may be retained when importing and exporting an image again. Other services may remove metadata when sharing an image.

In-app purchases and access status

The download and three-day trial are free; the trial starts through a free in-app purchase. The Full Version is a separate, one-time in-app purchase with no subscription. Apple handles transactions through StoreKit. The app uses verified transaction information, including the product, purchase date and entitlement status, to recognize trial access, Full Version access and existing purchases. Checks may also occur at app launch, when transactions change, or when restoring purchases. The app does not send this information to its own server. Payments, your Apple account and purchase processing are subject to Apple's privacy policy.

App Store privacy label

“Data Not Collected” refers to Apple's definition of data collection by the developer. It does not mean that the app stores no photos locally, or that iCloud, export or purchase services you choose do not process data.
