Kunsthandel
A virtual 3D art gallery — an unreleased 2021 prototype
Kunsthandel was a 3D version of kunsthandel.de: a virtual gallery, built with the Unreal Engine during the Corona era, where the artworks on offer could be walked through in real time rather than clicked through on a web page. It was made for iPad and the Mac.
A prototype from 2021 — it was never submitted to the App Store.

What it did
A walk-through showroom
A gallery you walk through
A complete exhibition space rendered in 3D — rooms, lighting and benches — that you move through freely instead of scrolling a web page.
Real-time, on the Unreal Engine
Built with the Unreal Engine and navigated with on-screen joysticks, so the whole space responds in real time on iPad and the Mac.
Tap a painting for the details
Step up to any work and an info card shows the artist, technique and dimensions, with a link straight to the listing.
The Munich skyline outside
Floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the city — the Frauenkirche on the horizon — to ground the gallery in a real place.

A demo of what 3D could do
It started as a demo of what the Unreal Engine makes possible: an art dealer’s catalogue turned into a place you could actually move through. It stayed a prototype and never shipped, but it is still one of the more fun things I have built. Curious about a 3D or interactive project? Get in touch.
