Heightmap

Depth Map Maker — photos into printable relief

Heightmap turns any photo into a clean, printable height map — a 16-bit grayscale image where brightness equals height. Feed it to a UV printer, laser engraver, CNC router or 3D printer to produce tactile relief from a single image. An on-device depth model does the estimating, so nothing leaves your Mac.

Requires macOS 15 or later.

Photo to printable relief, in one pass

A 35-second walkthrough — on-device depth, live 3D, relief textures and print-ready export.

Why Heightmap?

Three core arguments

On-device depth

An on-device model estimates the relief from a single photo — nothing leaves your Mac.

Shape the relief

Edit brushes, robust normalization, gamma and large-structure compression bring subjects forward and flatten the background — fully localized in 17 languages.

Print-ready export

16-bit grayscale PNG or TIFF (white = highest), plus a JSON sidecar with height, base thickness, DPI and Z-layers.

Features

What’s inside

Drag in any photo

Open or drop an image; the depth estimate appears in seconds — entirely on your Mac.

Relief edit brushes

Smooth, lighten, darken or restore any area by hand in a movable tool palette — paint the height directly.

Face-aware smoothing

Softens pores and wrinkles on detected faces while keeping eyes, nose and mouth crisp.

Robust normalization

Outlier compression keeps a close hand or a hot spot from flattening the whole relief.

Set the print size

Dial the longest side in millimetres — fit your printer’s build volume and see the exact height-to-size ratio.

Live 2D and 3D

Height map and a real-time 3D render side by side, with a movable light to judge the relief.

RIP-safe values

16-bit PNG or TIFF carry raw height values your RIP or slicer can trust — no guessing.

Built for makers

UV-DTF and UV flatbed prints, laser depth engraving, CNC bas-relief, 3D-printed reliefs.

Price

€2.99, one-time.
